Camperdown – Timboon Rail Trail

The Camperdown–Timboon Rail Trail is a scenic 34km journey through south-west Victoria, linking the volcanic landscapes around Camperdown with the lush forests and dairy country surrounding Timboon. Following the former railway corridor, the route travels through farmland, native vegetation and tall wet forest, passing Cobden and Glenfyne along the way. Historic railway remnants and old trestle bridges add plenty of character, with the heritage-listed Curdies River Trestle Bridge one of the highlights. While much of the trail is relatively gentle, this isn’t a completely cruisy rail trail. The section between Glenfyne and the Curdies River Bridge is rougher and more technical, with narrow sections, old sleepers, steep bridge bypasses and uneven surfaces making wider tyres a good choice. The first section out of Camperdown also includes some on-road riding and a challenging climb and descent near Lakes Bullen Merri and Gnotuk. RTS Tip: Finish in Timboon and reward yourself with some of the town’s famous local food and produce. If 34km isn’t enough, the trail now connects with the 19.5km Timboon–Port Campbell Trail, allowing you to continue all the way to the Great Ocean Road and coast. After heavy rain, expect muddy and slippery sections and take extra care around bridge approaches.
