Capricorn Coast Pineapple Rail Trail – Yeppoon The Capricorn Coast Pineapple Rail Trail is an easy, family-friendly cycling trail in Yeppoon, Central Queensland, following part of the former railway line that once connected the Capricorn Coast with Rockhampton. Currently stretching around 4.5km from Yeppoon through to Barmaryee, the sealed asphalt trail travels from the urban edge of town into picturesque bushland, providing a relaxed, predominantly traffic-free ride suitable for families, recreational cyclists, e-bikes and riders of varying abilities. The railway itself dates back to 1909 and once extended approximately 53km between Yeppoon and Rockhampton. It became closely associated with the region's pineapple industry, transporting produce from the coast before the line eventually closed in 2006. The first section of the Pineapple Rail Trail opened in 2014, giving the historic corridor a new life as a recreational cycling and walking route. With a gentle gradient and smooth surface, this is a great option for riders looking for easy cycling in Yeppoon or a family-friendly bike trail on the Capricorn Coast. Ride it as a roughly 9km return trip, or simply turn around whenever you've had enough. There's plenty more to enjoy around Yeppoon too, making the trail easy to incorporate into a bigger day exploring the Capricorn Coast, beaches and Southern Great Barrier Reef region. The bigger story is what could eventually come next. The former railway corridor continues towards Rockhampton, with approximately 39km of disused corridor between Yeppoon Golf Course and Nerimbera identified as a potential future rail trail extension. For now, though, riders should treat the developed Yeppoon section as the ride rather than assuming the entire former railway is accessible.
