About this ride
Sleeman Sports Complex - Chandler Velodrome is the historic outdoor cycling track at the Anna Meares Velodrome / Sleeman Sports Complex precinct in Chandler, Brisbane, a location that has played a major role in Queensland track cycling for decades. The outdoor velodrome was originally built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games, where it hosted track cycling competition before becoming an important training and racing venue for Queensland cyclists. Today, the original Chandler Outdoor Velodrome is no longer in operation, with track cycling at the precinct having moved to the world-class indoor Anna Meares Velodrome. Opened in 2016, the Anna Meares Velodrome features a 250-metre timber track and hosts everything from local club racing and Come & Try sessions through to national and international track cycling competition. For riders interested in Chandler Velodrome, track cycling in Brisbane, Brisbane velodromes or the history of cycling in Queensland, the original outdoor track remains an important part of the story of the Sleeman Sports Complex and the development of track cycling in Australia. RTS Tip: The historic outdoor Chandler Velodrome is no longer operational, so don't plan to visit it expecting to ride the track. Riders wanting to experience track cycling at Chandler should instead check the sessions available at the neighbouring Anna Meares Velodrome, including public Come & Try opportunities.
