Checker Hill Climb
About this ride
Checker Hill is the most contested Tour Down Under KOM after Willunga Hill, and the race has used it as a KOM 15 times. The Adelaide Bike Atlas measures the race version at 1.13 km at about 9.5%. It starts as a tame 10%, then surges towards 28% near the top. It's over in a flash, but it's one of the steepest pinches in the Adelaide Hills, so get into an easy gear early. Climbfinder's longer 1.8 km version tops out at 458 m. Traffic is low but there's no bike lane. Gumeracha, about 4 km on, is the closest food stop.
