Coast Park Path Rail Trail
About this ride
The Coast Park Path Rail Trail is a fantastic 25km coastal cycling route through Adelaide, combining sections of historic railway corridors with some of the city’s best beachfront riding between Woodville, Grange, Glenelg and Marino. The route is made up of three distinct sections. From Woodville to Grange, riders follow a railside path alongside the operational Grange railway line and the route of the former Grange Tramway. From Grange, the ride hits the coast and follows the beachfront south through some of Adelaide’s most popular seaside suburbs towards Henley Beach and Glenelg. From Glenelg, the trail continues south towards Brighton and Marino, following sections associated with the former Glenelg to Marino railway. Expect long stretches of ocean views, sandy beaches, jetties and plenty of opportunities to stop for coffee, food or a swim along the way. The trail is mostly flat and sealed with concrete or paving, making it an excellent option for families, recreational cyclists, e-bikes and riders looking for an easy coastal day out. Ride the full 25km point-to-point, choose a shorter beachfront section or turn around whenever you’ve had enough. It also connects beautifully into Adelaide’s wider cycling network. Riders can link with the River Torrens Linear Park Trail, Mike Turtur Bikeway, Outer Harbor Greenway and Coast to Vines Rail Trail, opening up plenty of possibilities for longer rides and loops. The bigger Adelaide Coast Park vision stretches approximately 70km along the metropolitan coastline from North Haven towards Sellicks Beach, with much of that wider coastal route already available. The 25km Woodville–Marino section highlighted here is the portion Rail Trails Australia specifically identifies for its railway heritage. Whether you're searching for Adelaide rail trails, cycling along Adelaide beaches, family-friendly bike rides in Adelaide or easy cycling trails in South Australia, the Coast Park Path is a brilliant way to explore the city on two wheels. RTS Tip: This is a popular shared path, particularly around Henley Beach, Glenelg and Brighton, so expect plenty of walkers, runners and families during busy periods. Slow down through crowded beachfront precincts, give way appropriately and allow some extra time for stops — this is definitely a ride where there’s no need to rush.
