About this ride

Como Bridge Rail Trail – Oatley to Como The Como Bridge Rail Trail is a short but memorable cycling and walking route in southern Sydney, following the former railway alignment between Oatley and Como and crossing the Georges River on the historic Old Como Railway Bridge. The sealed shared path runs for approximately 1.5–2km, beginning near Myra Place in Oatley before heading south along the old railway corridor and onto the impressive bridge across the river. The relatively flat alignment and smooth surface make it an easy ride suitable for families, recreational cyclists, touring bikes and riders looking for a relaxed traffic-free spin. The bridge is the real highlight. Opened in 1885, it originally carried a single railway track across the Georges River as part of the main line south from Sydney. When a new double-track railway bridge opened alongside it in 1972, the old bridge was eventually repurposed as a pedestrian and cycling connection. Today, riders can pedal directly across this impressive piece of Sydney railway heritage, with beautiful views along the Georges River and the modern railway bridge running alongside. At the Como end, the path continues through Como Pleasure Grounds, with the waterfront, picnic areas and nearby Como Hotel making it easy to turn this little ride into a relaxed family outing. At the northern end, Oatley railway station is around 1km away, giving the trail useful public transport access. While it's short as a standalone ride, Como Bridge can also be incorporated into a longer exploration of cycling around Oatley, Como and the Georges River, making it a handy connection within Sydney's southern cycling network. Whether you're searching for Como Bridge cycling, Oatley bike trails, Sydney rail trails, family-friendly bike rides in Sydney or cycling around the Georges River, this historic crossing is well worth adding to the list. RTS Tip: This is a popular shared path used by walkers as well as cyclists, so take it easy across the bridge and give other users plenty of room. If the short distance isn't enough, use Como Bridge as part of a longer ride exploring the surrounding Georges River cycling network.
