About this ride

The Copper Coast Rail Trail is a 25km fully sealed shared trail connecting Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula. Following former railway corridors through the heart of the historic Copper Coast, the route combines easy, mostly flat riding with open farmland, mining heritage and glimpses towards the coast. The original 8km Kadina–Wallaroo section is joined by a newer 17km Wallaroo–Moonta section, making it possible to ride between all three towns. Along the way you’ll pass historic railway sites, remnants of the Wallaroo and Moonta mining areas and interpretive signs telling the story of the region’s copper-mining past. Shelters, seating and bike repair stations are positioned along the route, while each of the three towns offers cafés, shops and facilities. The sealed surface and gentle gradients make this a particularly accessible option for families, recreational riders, touring bikes and e-bikes. RTS Tip: For a great shorter ride, tackle the 8km Kadina to Wallaroo section and finish at the Wallaroo waterfront, or ride the 17km Wallaroo to Moonta section to explore the historic Moonta Mines. If you want more, connecting paths continue from Moonta to Moonta Bay and Port Hughes, making it easy to add some beach time to your ride. The trail crosses several roads along the way, so watch for give-way points even though most of the ride is separated from traffic.
