Encounter Bikeway railside trail

The Encounter Bikeway is a beautiful coastal ride across South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, linking Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor over approximately 31km one way. The route combines sealed shared paths with relatively quiet on-road sections, following beaches, coastal reserves and sections of the historic railway corridor. Between Port Elliot and Victor Harbor, the trail frequently runs right beside the railway, so you may even find yourself riding alongside the historic Cockle Train. With ocean views, heritage towns, cafés, beaches, parks and plenty of places to stop along the way, it’s an easy-going ride that works just as well as a short family outing as it does a full point-to-point adventure. RTS Tip: One of the best ways to experience the Encounter Bikeway is to ride one way and catch the Cockle Train back with your bike. Bike carriage is available on selected services, but space can be limited, so check with SteamRanger before relying on it for your return journey. Otherwise, break the trail into shorter sections — the 7.5km Port Elliot to Victor Harbor stretch is a particularly scenic option with plenty of coastline and railway action along the way.
