Ferny Grove Rail Trail

The Ferny Grove Rail Trail follows sections of the former railway between Ferny Grove and Samford Village, offering around 9–11km one way of sealed rail trail, shared paths and quiet-road connections just north-west of Brisbane. Starting conveniently at Ferny Grove railway station, the route follows the old railway alignment along Lanita Road before joining the Samford Cycle Link through bushland and historic railway cuttings around Camp Mountain. From there, riders use connecting roads to reach Samford Village, where remnants of the old line and railway history are still easy to spot. It’s a great recreational ride for hybrids, gravel bikes and MTBs, with Samford’s cafés and shops providing a very good reason to make it all the way to town. RTS Tip: Be aware that this is not currently a continuous off-road rail trail. Parts of the former corridor between Ferny Grove and Samford require riding on roads including McLean Road, Petersons Road and Camp Mountain Road, so younger or less confident riders may prefer to turn around at the end of the separated trail section. For a bigger MTB adventure, the route also provides handy access towards the recreational trails around Samford Conservation Park and the wider Samford Valley.
