Georgetown Velodrome
About this ride
The George Town Velodrome is a classic outdoor concrete cycling track at the George Town Sports Complex on Marguerite Street in northern Tasmania. The track forms part of a town with a strong cycling history and has traditionally been used for track racing, training and local cycling events. George Town Council identifies the velodrome as a dedicated cycling facility, with the track surrounding an open central area that can also support other sporting use. It’s an old-school regional velodrome rather than a modern indoor facility, but an interesting stop for riders exploring George Town’s increasingly impressive cycling scene. RTS Tip: George Town is well worth making a bigger cycling stop. After checking out the velodrome, you can hit the George Town Pump Track, cruise the 6km kanamaluka Trail to Low Head, or head out to the Mount George and Tippogoree Hills MTB networks. If you’re planning to ride the velodrome itself, check locally for organised activities or access restrictions first, as the facility is part of the wider sporting complex.
