Kenrick Tucker Velodrome

The Kenrick Tucker Velodrome in Rockhampton, Queensland, is a 333.33 metre outdoor cycling track and the home of the Rockhampton Cycling Club. Located on Berserker Street in North Rockhampton, the concrete velodrome features banking of up to 31.8 degrees and was designed as a replica of the Edmonton, Canada track where local cyclist Kenrick Tucker won Commonwealth Games sprint gold in 1978. Officially opened in 1983, the velodrome has played an important role in Central Queensland track cycling and has helped develop generations of riders, including Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion Anna Meares. The track received a major resurfacing upgrade, giving the historic facility a smoother and faster riding surface while retaining its distinctive outdoor character. Today it continues to host track cycling training, racing, come-and-try sessions and club activities, catering for riders ranging from newcomers through to competitive track cyclists. RTS Tip: A velodrome is very different from an everyday cycle path, particularly with banking approaching 32 degrees. If you're new to track cycling, connect with the Rockhampton Cycling Club and join an appropriate introductory or come-and-try session rather than simply heading onto the track. It’s also worth checking the club calendar before visiting, as training and racing sessions regularly use the facility.
