About this ride
Kiwarrak MTB Park, often known locally as the “Tip Trails”, is a huge hand-built mountain bike network in Kiwarrak State Forest just south of Taree on the NSW Mid North Coast. Developed over more than 20 years, it has grown into nearly 70km of MTB-specific singletrack, making it one of the largest established trail networks on the eastern seaboard. Kiwarrak isn't built around one main loop. Instead, the forest contains an interconnected web of trails, crossing and linking in countless combinations so riders can effectively build their own adventure. The riding covers everything from family-friendly XC through to flow, technical trail and enduro-style gravity riding, so there’s plenty here for both newer riders and experienced mountain bikers. For an easier introduction, there are marked 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km loops leaving from the main car park off The Bucketts Way. The 5km loop suits most riders, while the 10km adds a little more challenge. The 15km steps things up for intermediate riders, and the 20km loop incorporates some of the network’s more technical riding, including jumps, drops and rock gardens. Beyond the marked loops, Kiwarrak is famous for its fast, flowing hand-cut singletrack and gravity runs, along with purpose-built structures and jump lines. The natural contours of the forest allow trails to weave together without huge climbs, making it easy to keep adding “just one more trail” to the ride. The network has an impressive community story too. The trails were developed and are maintained by the Manning Great Lakes Tip Riders Mountain Bike Club. After the Black Summer bushfires devastated the forest, destroying around 50 bridges and almost 40 jumps, significant rebuilding followed, culminating in the upgraded Kiwarrak Mountain Bike Trail officially opening in 2024. Entry is free, with parking, toilets and family-friendly facilities available at the main trailhead. The club also runs regular social rides, events and trail-maintenance days, making Kiwarrak a major hub for the Mid North Coast MTB community. For riders searching for Kiwarrak MTB, Taree mountain bike trails, Tip Trails, Mid North Coast MTB or mountain biking near Forster and Taree, this is absolutely a destination worth putting on the ride list. RTS Tip: With nearly 70km of interconnected trails, this is one where having current mapping makes a huge difference. First-time visitors can start with one of the signed loops, while experienced riders should use the wider network to build a bigger adventure. The club specifically asks riders not to ride when the trails are wet, and Forestry Corporation recommends checking current State Forest events and closures before heading out.
