Marino Rocks Greenway rail trail

The Marino Rocks Greenway Rail Trail is a 16 km sealed cycling route connecting the Adelaide CBD with Marino Rocks in South Australia’s southern suburbs. Following the active Adelaide–Seaford railway line, the greenway uses a combination of separated shared paths, quiet local streets and on-road cycling sections to provide an important commuter and recreational cycling connection between the city and coast. Starting from the Adelaide Parklands, the route travels south through areas including Goodwood, Clarence Park, Edwardstown, Oaklands Park, Brighton and Marino, finishing near Marino Rocks Railway Station. The smooth asphalt surface and generally gentle gradients make the Marino Rocks Greenway suitable for road bikes, hybrids, e-bikes, touring bikes and recreational cyclists. Along the way it intersects several of Adelaide’s major cycling routes, including the Mike Turtur Bikeway and Sturt Creek Linear Park Trail, with further connections towards the Patrick Jonker Veloway. Regular railway stations along the corridor also make it easy to create a one-way ride and catch an Adelaide Metro train back. One of the biggest reasons to ride the Marino Rocks Greenway is where it can take you next. At Marino Rocks it connects directly with the Coast to Vines Rail Trail, which continues south through Adelaide’s coastal suburbs towards McLaren Vale and Willunga. Riders can also divert towards the Coast Park Path for a seaside ride through Brighton and Glenelg, making the greenway a useful backbone for much longer Adelaide cycling adventures. RTS Tip: If you don’t want to ride the full return distance, use the Seaford railway line to your advantage — ride the 16 km from Adelaide to Marino Rocks and catch the train back, or take the train out and enjoy the ride towards the city. For a bigger day, continue from Marino Rocks onto the Coast to Vines Rail Trail. Be aware that this isn’t entirely an off-road rail trail; several sections use quiet streets and bike lanes, so follow the greenway signage carefully and take extra care at road crossings.
