Meadowlink Linear Park
About this ride
Meadowlink Linear Park is a short urban rail trail in Broadmeadows, around 20km north of Melbourne’s CBD, following the former Broadstore railway line. The current rail-trail section runs for approximately 1.2km from Railway Crescent to Merlynston Creek, providing a wide concrete shared path for cycling and walking. The smooth surface and gentle terrain make Meadowlink an easy ride for families, beginner riders, hybrids and touring bikes. The landscaped corridor includes hundreds of newly planted trees and native plants, seating and lighting, transforming the former railway reserve into an attractive green connection through Broadmeadows. There’s some interesting railway history here too. The former Broadstore Line was built during World War II to service the Maygar Army Barracks, branching from the main railway at Broadmeadows. The line closed in 1982 and the tracks were removed in 1991, with elements of the old railway story now incorporated into the park. Although short on its own, Meadowlink is particularly useful as part of a longer ride. At the eastern end it connects with the Merlynston Creek Trail, which continues towards Jack Roper Reserve and provides a connection towards the M80 shared trail network. Broadmeadows Railway Station is also close to the western end, making the trail easy to reach by train. RTS Tip: At only 1.2km, Meadowlink is best used as a connector rather than a destination ride. Link it with Merlynston Creek and the surrounding shared paths to build a longer exploration of Melbourne’s northern suburbs. It’s also a good option for families thanks to the wide concrete path, gentle gradient and nearby parks and playgrounds.
