Mount Gambier area BMX

The Mount Gambier BMX and pump track facilities provide a great option for BMX, mountain bike and skills riding on South Australia’s Limestone Coast. The main riding hub is Hastings Cunningham Reserve on Shepherdson Road, home to the Mount Gambier Pump Track alongside the existing Blue Lake BMX Track. The asphalt Velosolutions pump track features a mix of berms, rollers, jumps, doglegs and transfer lines, designed so beginners can develop their skills while experienced BMX and MTB riders can find faster and more challenging combinations. The facility was completed in 2019 and became Australia’s first Velosolutions Red Bull Pump Track, subsequently hosting international-level qualifying events. For younger and developing riders, Melaleuca Reserve on the corner of Douglas Street and Pressey Street provides another option. Its 91-metre asphalt pump track replaced an older dirt BMX track and was specifically designed as an entry-level, family-friendly facility. Featuring smaller jumps and berms, it complements the larger Hastings Cunningham track and gives newer riders somewhere to practise pumping, cornering and bike control before progressing to bigger features. Together, the facilities add another dimension to cycling in Mount Gambier, particularly when combined with the Crater Lakes MTB trails, local cycling paths and the wider Limestone Coast riding network. RTS Tip: If you’re new to pump tracks, start at Melaleuca Reserve or take a few slower laps at Hastings Cunningham before chasing speed. Try riding without pedalling — use your arms and legs to “pump” through the rollers and berms to generate momentum. More experienced riders can experiment with the different transfer lines at Hastings Cunningham, but always check that a line is clear before dropping in.
