Albert Bishop Park & Criterium Circuit
About this ride
Albert Bishop Park & Criterium Circuit is a dedicated road cycling facility at Nundah on Brisbane’s northside, providing riders with a traffic-free place to train, practise bunch riding and experience criterium racing. The circuit is managed by AusCycling’s Brisbane office and is one of Brisbane’s established venues for club and competitive road cycling. The main circuit is approximately 1.2 kilometres long and relatively flat, making it fast without being overly complicated. A shorter 300-metre loop provides flexibility for different race formats and activities. While there aren't any big climbs to worry about, repeated accelerations, cornering and bunch positioning can quickly turn a few laps into a serious workout. The circuit regularly hosts criterium racing, junior events and club competition, with organisations including Hamilton Wheelers, Lifecycle Cycling Club and UQ Cycle Club using the venue. Racing ranges from introductory grades through to seriously quick A-grade fields, making it an important part of Brisbane's road cycling scene. Outside booked events, the circuit is available for casual public use, although organised bookings always take priority and the track must not be entered while an exclusive event is underway. If you're planning to ride specifically at the circuit, it's worth checking the current bookings before making the trip. Its location also makes it useful for more than simply riding laps. Albert Bishop Park sits alongside Brisbane's wider bikeway network, so riders can use the circuit as part of a longer recreational or training ride rather than treating it as a standalone destination. RTS TIP: Never tried a criterium circuit? Albert Bishop is a great place to practise holding a line, cornering smoothly and getting comfortable riding at speed without dealing with cars. Check the bookings first, cut a few laps, then link into Brisbane's bikeway network to turn it into a longer ride. If racing has ever tempted you, keep an eye on the local club calendars too — this is one of the places to give crit racing a crack.
