O-Bahn Bikeway trail

The O-Bahn Bikeway is a 16 km sealed shared path running from the Adelaide CBD through the River Torrens corridor to Modbury. Following Adelaide’s unique O-Bahn guided busway for much of its length, the trail combines riverside parklands, urban riding and one of the more unusual public transport systems you’ll encounter on two wheels. Starting near the eastern end of Grenfell Street, the route passes through the Adelaide Parklands before joining the River Torrens and following a scenic corridor through St Peters, Felixstow, Klemzig, Windsor Gardens and Paradise. Numerous bridges, underpasses and sections beside the river keep interaction with busy roads relatively low, although there are some short stretches on quiet suburban streets. One of the trail’s defining features is riding alongside the O-Bahn, a German-designed guided bus system where buses travel on dedicated concrete tracks at speeds of up to 90 km/h before being able to leave the guideway and continue on normal roads. The bikeway provides plenty of opportunities to watch the system in action while enjoying the surrounding linear parks and waterways. The route is predominantly asphalt and relatively easy riding, making it suitable for recreational riders, touring and hybrid bikes and mountain bikes. Family-friendly stops include parks and playgrounds along the Torrens, while the trail also passes close to Hope Valley Reservoir before finishing around Tea Tree Plaza in Modbury. For riders wanting to explore further, the O-Bahn Bikeway connects into Adelaide’s extensive cycling network, including the Adelaide Parklands Trail, City to Levels Bikeway and Dry Creek Trail, making it easy to incorporate into a longer loop or cross-city ride.
