About this ride

The Ten Mile Brook Trail, now officially known as Bunnitj Biddi, is a scenic 7.3 km one-way walking and cycling trail from Margaret River’s Rotary Park to Ten Mile Brook Dam in Western Australia’s South West. The trail follows the Margaret River through Wooditjup National Park, winding beneath karri, marri, jarrah and blackbutt forest before reaching the Rusden Picnic Site at the dam. At around 14.6–15 km return, it’s an excellent easy ride for families, beginner mountain bikers, gravel bikes and recreational riders. Much of the route follows the formation of an old timber tramway, giving the trail gentle gradients and an interesting link to Margaret River’s timber-industry history. Surfaces vary between compacted trail and coarse gravel, with some uneven and loose sections. The MTB grading is officially easy, although winter conditions can make parts considerably more challenging. Starting at Rotary Park, near the preserved steam locomotive known as Old Kate, the trail follows the northern side of the Margaret River before continuing deeper into Wooditjup National Park. The forest and river scenery are the real highlights, particularly during spring when the surrounding bush comes alive with wildflowers and birdlife. The destination is Ten Mile Brook Dam, constructed in the mid-1990s as part of the water supply for Margaret River and surrounding communities. The Rusden Picnic Site provides toilets, barbecues, parking and shaded areas, making it an ideal turnaround point before riding back into town. The trail also fits brilliantly into a bigger Margaret River cycling adventure. Connections around Rotary Park provide access towards the Wadandi Track and Margaret River’s extensive MTB networks, while nearby trails make it possible to combine an easy river ride with more challenging singletrack. RTS Tip: Be aware that the Ten Mile Brook Trail has officially been renamed Bunnitj Biddi, after Bunnitj, an ancestral Wadandi Traditional Owner, so you may see both names on older maps and websites. There is currently an important seasonal consideration: the Margaret River ford can flood and become unsafe to cross, with optional diversion routes provided when water levels are high. Check the signs at Rotary Park and current park alerts before riding, particularly through winter. For an easy outing, ride the full 14.6 km return from Rotary Park to Ten Mile Brook Dam, pack a snack for the picnic area, then enjoy the gentle ride back into Margaret River.
