The Island Ride, Wadjemup (Rottnest Island)

The Island Ride is the classic loop around Wadjemup (Rottnest Island). It runs about 22 km, or up to 30 km with detours, out to the West End and back on quiet sealed roads with very few vehicles. Stop at the Cathedral Rocks and Cape Vlamingh platforms to look for fur seals, sea lions, dolphins and, from August to December, migrating whales. On the way you'll pass Geordie and Longreach Bays and the island's salt lakes. Allow three to five hours with swim and quokka stops. It's about a 30-minute ferry from Fremantle, and you can hire a bike from Pedal and Flipper on the island or bring your own. Carry water for the run out to the West End.
