The Morgan Loop
About this ride
The Morgan Loop is a quiet, 225 km, one-night, two-day bikepacking loop from Morgan on the Murray River. It's about 92% dirt roads with around 1,150 m of climbing. From the flat, irrigated western Riverland it heads out to the edge of the arid foothills towards the Burra hills and southern Flinders Ranges, then back, mostly on maintained dirt roads that run parallel to the highways and see only a handful of vehicles a day. It's technically easy and a great first fully self-supported overnighter or shakedown for remote trips. Carry plenty of water: the route passes only one (usually) reliable water source, a creek. Finish with a swim in the Murray.
