Timbarra - Lindrook Ride
About this ride
Timbarra–Lindrook Loop – Tenterfield Gravel Ride The Timbarra–Lindrook Loop is a spectacular 85km gravel and off-road cycling adventure near Tenterfield, exploring the remote forests, granite country and rugged landscapes of the New England High Country. With around 1,620m of climbing, this is a substantial day on the bike. The route combines quiet gravel roads with sandy doubletrack, forest trails and some steep descents as it ventures through the Timbarra and Basket Swamp areas. The constantly changing terrain is a big part of the appeal. Riders leave the open country surrounding Tenterfield behind and head deeper into forest and national park landscapes, where granite outcrops, creeks and remote backroads create a genuine sense of adventure. Basket Swamp National Park is one of the highlights of the ride, with its forests, granite formations and rugged high-country scenery. The wider area is also home to Timbarra Lookout, Basket Swamp Falls and a network of unsealed roads and management trails. At 85km, the distance is manageable for experienced gravel riders, but the climbing, sandy surfaces and steeper descents make this considerably more challenging than the kilometres alone suggest. Good fitness and confidence riding changing off-road surfaces are recommended. For riders planning a gravel cycling trip to Tenterfield, Timbarra–Lindrook sits perfectly between the region's shorter local loops and its huge 100km+ day rides and multi-day bikepacking adventures. RTS Tip: This ride travels through remote country where mobile reception and services can be limited. Carry plenty of food and water, repair equipment and offline navigation, and be prepared for changing surfaces. Gravel roads around Basket Swamp can also be affected by wet weather, so check current road, national park, weather and fire conditions before setting out.
