Walk the Yorke
About this ride
Walk the Yorke is a 500 km trail around South Australia's Yorke Peninsula, about an hour's drive from Adelaide. It opened in 2015 for both walkers and cyclists. BIKEPACKING.com's five-day route circles the boot-shaped peninsula clockwise from Port Wakefield, with ocean views over your left shoulder for long stretches. About 75% of it is on gravel roads, doubletrack and easy singletrack. Where walkers head onto the beach, riders follow quiet gravel roads instead. The route is flat, with only about 2,500 m of climbing in total. Resupply is easy, with at least one town a day plus plenty of water points and campsites. A gravel bike with reasonably wide tyres is ideal. Expect some corrugations, sand and mud, and headwinds in places. It's a perfect first multi-day trip.
