About this ride
The Yalbunullup MTB Trails, in Yellagonga Regional Park beside Lake Joondalup in Perth’s northern suburbs, are a purpose-built, family-friendly mountain bike network offering around 7 km of cross-country and flow trails. The network has been designed primarily for beginner and intermediate riders, making it an excellent place for kids, newer mountain bikers and riders looking to develop their skills without travelling far from Perth. The network includes around 14 trails, with green and blue options spread across the hillside overlooking the lake. Beginner-friendly trails include Winging It, Duck Dive, Roo Run and Rat Race, while intermediate riders can step up to Bermuda, Daisy Chain, Rocky Road, Sentry, Cowabunga and Little Wedgie. The trails are relatively short, allowing riders to easily link multiple climbs and descents into a longer session. There’s a strong focus on skills progression. Winging It provides a gentle 985 m green climb with views across Lake Joondalup, while Duck Dive is an easy introduction to XC riding and pairs nicely with Roo Run. Moving into the blues, Daisy Chain adds sweeping berms and rock rollovers, while Rocky Road provides one of the more challenging cross-country rides in the network. The park has become even more useful for progressing riders with the addition of two dedicated jump lines in late 2025, catering for intermediate and advanced riders. A new flyover bridge also allows the network to host cross-country events without conflicting trail movements. Facilities are excellent for an urban MTB park, with a large car park, toilets, pavilion shelter, drinking fountains, bike racks and interpretive signage. Several trails also carry adaptive MTB ratings, adding to the network’s emphasis on accessible riding. Access is free. The name Yalbunullup was selected in consultation with Traditional Owners and reflects the traditional Noongar name for the site. The trails sit within culturally significant Yellagonga Regional Park, with the open design preserving views towards Lake Joondalup and the surrounding bushland. RTS Tip: Yalbunullup is a brilliant skills-progression park. Start with Winging It, Duck Dive and Rat Race, then move onto Bermuda, Daisy Chain and Rocky Road as your confidence builds. More experienced riders can add laps of the newer jump lines. With toilets, water, shelter and parking right at the trailhead, it’s also an easy choice for families or a quick MTB session in Perth’s northern suburbs.
