Crit circuits around Sydney

NSW · Greater Sydney7 Sep 2026By Ride the State

Where Sydneysiders race short, closed loops - from Maroubra's concrete classic to the Shire, St Ives, Olympic Park and Eastern Creek.

Criteriums are short, closed-loop races - lap after lap, corners and surges, grades from first-timer to A grade. Sydney's crit scene is one of the best ways to get race-fit without leaving the metro.

This guide maps the main circuits riders talk about, links the ones on Ride the State, and points you at the clubs that keep them busy. Schedules change with daylight saving, weather and permits - treat nights below as a starting point, then confirm entry on Buncheur, EntryBoss or the club calendar before you pin a number on.

Find clubs and events

Heffron Park - Maroubra (the classic)

Sydney's spiritual home of crit racing. Heffron Park Criterium Circuit is a purpose-built ~2 km concrete loop through Heffron Park, Maroubra. Randwick City Council lists it as a cycling track for club events when booked, and open for general use when it isn't.

Sydney Cycling Club calls it a tough, bumpy course that winds around playing fields, open to crosswinds, with corners that punish a loose line. AusCycling has staged NSW criterium championships here (including 2026 fixtures at Heffron on EntryBoss).

Who you'll often find here

When racing isn't on, it's a legitimate place to train - still watch for other park users. Save the ride card, then check Events for the next Heffron listing.

Waratah Park - Sutherland (the Shire hub)

Waratah Park / Oval Cycling Track is the Shire's dedicated cycling precinct at Rawson Avenue, Sutherland. Sutherland Shire Council describes three looped circuits, the longest about 1.2 km, open to the public when not booked by clubs. There is also a separate mountain-bike short track on site: Waratah Park Mountain Bike Short Track.

Who you'll often find here

Train to Sutherland Station puts you minutes from the track. Race nights can book the loops - check availability if you only want a free ride.

HART - St Ives (pinch every lap)

HART Rider Training School Criterium Circuit is an enclosed, traffic-free circuit at the HART Rider Training School in St Ives. Manly Warringah Cycling Club runs summer Friday night crits here (typically daylight-saving season).

Save the HART ride card and MWCC, then confirm entries on Buncheur before you travel.

Newington Armory - Sydney Olympic Park

Newington Armory Criterium Circuit is the closed crit course at Newington Armory, Sydney Olympic Park. Lidcombe Auburn Cycling Club co-hosts with Parklife Cycling Club on Buncheur.

Confirm the current race night and entries on Buncheur or LACC before you turn up. Distinct from Lidcombe Oval Velodrome (track, not this road crit).

Lansdowne Reserve - Western Sydney

Lansdowne Reserve Criterium Track is a purpose-built sealed ~2 km circuit at Lansdowne.

Check club calendars, Buncheur or EntryBoss - and Events on Ride the State - before you go.

Beaumont Road - Mount Kuring-gai (northside)

Beaumont Road Criterium Circuit is Northern Sydney Cycling Club's long-running club criterium in the Mt Kuring-gai industrial estate - locals call it the Beauie Worlds.

Races usually fall on the third Sunday of the month (plus some public holidays). Check the NSCC calendar for dates and start times before you pin a number on.

Sydney Motorsport Park - Eastern Creek (the big one)

Sydney Motorsport Park Criterium Circuit is a closed motorsport venue used for criterium and circuit racing on wide sealed layouts.

Course length depends on the booked layout. This is an event venue - only attend when a club event is booked. See Events. Distinct from nearby Sydney Dragway.

Sydney Dragway - Eastern Creek

Sydney Dragway Criterium Circuit is listed by Waratah Masters Cycling Club among its Sunday closed-circuit venues., Marconi Cycling Club also host events here. It sits next to Sydney Motorsport Park but is a separate venue - confirm which Eastern Creek venue is on before you drive out.

Sydney International Regatta Centre - Penrith Lakes

Sydney International Regatta Centre is on the hub as a lakeside loop. Penrith Cycling Club races a longer Monday evening criterium / kermesse series here in daylight-saving seasons (confirm live on the club page). Bigger than a classic short crit, but firmly on the Sydney racing map. Marconi Cycling Club also host racing here.

How to pick your first crit

  1. Start graded. Most Sydney crits run A-D (sometimes E). If you're new, ask the club which grade is right.
  2. Licence. Club racing usually needs an AusCycling race membership (or the temporary option the organiser lists).
  3. Enter online. Buncheur and EntryBoss are the usual doors.
  4. Save venues on Ride the State. Create a free account, save the circuits above, build a trip if you're stacking a weekend.
  5. Watch the weather call. Summer series often cancel for heavy rain - follow the club on race day.
